I'm looking to re-jig my company's website away from our expensive web designer/host company and their proprietry CMS. We currently have separate web hosting as a legacy from the days prior to going with them (wasn't by choice btw!) & they offer both Mambo and Joomla CMS addons (both free) for their hositng packages.

Just wondered which was the better of the two & if anyone had any experience of writing custom templates for either?

Ive used both, and I prefer Joomla, using at the moment and I like it more.

I havn't writen any templates for either though.

Isn't Mambo just an old version of what later became Joomla? Or Joomla was a spin-off or something.

Anyway, my vote also for Joomla. Seems to have better product support.

Mambo was purchased, new owners wanted to change a lot of it

Joomla was many of the old Mambo guys, still wanted it free, hence Joomla.

Much better, and more components/modules for it these days
