right, so i've got mamp pro running virtual servers for each website i'm working on, so they would be accessed with example1:8888 or example2:8888 - but how would i access these from another computer? (specifically a windows one for IE testing)?
You should be able to visit them on another computer that is on the same network by entering your Mac's IP address along with the port number assigned by MAMP.
? - yeah but these are virtual hosts... i can access the standard local host with the ip address but when on the hosting computer i can type http://website:8888 (if i had set up a virtual server called website) - what can i type to access this from another computer on the network?
I've only used the standard version of MAMP which I'm assume doesn't have this multiple virtual host feature. For me, to access a website hosted by MAMP on my iPhone, I have to type in my Mac's IP address followed by the port number assigned by MAMP. This probably doesn't help you since it's a different version
