Man is crushed by concrete block

I read the title and thought that he was unlucky to get hit on the head by a concrete block. Then I read the article and its a 30tonne concrete section :o
Nasty.

I used to work in the warehouse at Asda and they would get ISO containers in for temporary storage over Christmas. I was asked to help push this containter as the lorry driver lifted it off with the hydraulic arm to provide a bit of stability, I hated that job because I thought something like that would happen.

My Dad works in the construction trade and I always worry about things like this, I know they have all these health and safety procedures in place, but it still seems a dangerous job. :(

There was a nasty accident here in Stoke about a month ago.
A man was opening his works gates (about 6 ft tall, 10 feet wide, heavy bars) when one fell off on top of him.
They reckon he wouldn't have died straightaway but been slowly crushed to death.
:(

A friend of the families son died in a similar way. He was working on a construction site somewhere in England (originally from Ireland) and the load dropped from the crane and crushed him below. He died instantly :(

"Although ambulance staff were there within minutes he had suffered massive injuries and unfortunately there was nothing that could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead on scene."

Christ, nobody actually had any hope of him surviving a 30tonne concrete block surely? That would be a miricle. At least it would be quick.

I remeber about 4 years ago 3 kids got arrested for dropping brease blocks etc off a bridge onto the dual carrage way tween truro and falmouth at carnon downs.

having the bridge fall on you is slightly different tho

They should be arrested for attempted murder for that! And that's not the keyboard warrior on me talking

Kids? don't you mean murderers?

Yep. I remember that. It's happened a few times around the country.

Edit: Seems they're not just targeting cars :( http://www.trackoff.org/news_details.asp?id=743

I think I remember something about a lorry driver dying from a heart attack after some kids threw rocks/bricks off a bridge which smashed his windscreen. :(

still kids, like 10 years old, dumb kids at that.
can't remeber if anyone died,

If they died, its murder. If they didn't die it was attempted murder.

You don't throw concrete blocks onto cars travelling at high speed not expecting someone to get killed.

At 10 years of age, who do you blame? the kids or the parents?

on the site close to where i was working on my placement, a guy was killed when a building block fell like 20 floors or something. :(

left bank apartments in manchester i think it was. they had a terrible safety record there, apparently quite a few people died on it...

Over here in Belfast there is a carriageway called the Westlink and it used to be very common for young children/teens to throw bricks and such things from the fly overs. My uncles car got hit by one one day and it left a huge dent in the roof, mum was in the car with him at the time aswell. I remember there was one or two serious accidents due to this.
