I knew man u had debts but didn't realise they were that bad! Just the interest on the debt is gonna make it difficult to sign any players and the club just about scraped a profit this year only because of the £80million sale of ronaldo (would have been a £74million loss without).

What will happen when uefa introduce those financial fair play rules for the cl etc? What do man u fans think? Worried?

This is what you get when the purchase of the club is funded by taking out a debt in the same clubs name

They deserve it tbh

I'm a Liverpool fan but to suggest they deserve it confuses me. Who deserves it? It certainly isn't the fans, it is far from their fault.

It is a disgrace the way modern football is. Sometimes, I wonder if it would be such a bad thing if some of the most treasured clubs were to do a Leeds (for want of a better phrase, and I include Leeds as one of those clubs). The reason for this is that the most passionate of fans may feel that they can finally have their club back from the 'prawn sandwich brigade' that roy Keane famously mentioned.

I don't know if proper Leeds fans ever felt that they were infiltrated by such types but I would be interested to know if their fans feel that what happened to them may have been a blessing in disguise?

Because the talk from Uefa at the moment is regarding clubs that are constantly losing money, which Chelsea and City are.

Except that chelsea's transfer dealings have calmed considerably and they'll probably make a profit from next year whereas man u won't because of all the debt interest. As I said they would have had a >£70million loss this year if ronaldo hadn't been sold. Of course they could try and sell rooney this year...

Crazy that they can post a profit, despite the ridiculous interest payments, and yet still their debt goes up!

I'd be pretty concerned if I was a Man Utd fan. They can't be expected to sell £80m worth of players every year, and given that they've been winning plenty recently, there can't be many other ways for them to make so much money. At this rate, you've got to think the only way is down for them.

Peter Kenyon? ;)

Utd's holding company would have made a loss, Chelsea did make a loss (~£44m) and have made huge losses year on year for a while now.

IIRC, Uefa are talking about clubs that have made successive losses. Chelsea have (and are likely to for a while), Utd haven't.

Their has to be a worse off club surely? As i thought Real Madrid were the club with the most debt so if thats true least UTD arent as bad as them lol but if im wrong ooops comes to mind

So basically if United were to get into problems, the Glaziers could just walk away as the loan used to buy the club is secured against the club itself?

Seems to smack of retardedness?

Which is why I said the club deserved it for allowing it self to be bought in such a fashion

It should not even be legal to buy a profit making club like that and borrow so much money against it.

The sooner they change the rules on profit and spending for clubs the better.

It's a disgrace whats been allowed to happen at Manu and Liverpool. You should only be allowed to spend what you earn in profit and play or buy kids if not. They can then start to bring wages down to reasonable levels where clubs can sign players and afford to pay the wages.

It will take years to undo the rapid greed growth the premiership has brought to football.

It's a sad situation and it's all the owners fault, the people that are doing it are bad people and I can't understand why they'd do it, is the years of stress, abuse and the hate from millions worth a few million? Not to me

Not really as UEFA only want clubs to demonstrate that they can balance the books by 2013/14, Chelsea are well on the way to doing that anyway and if the deficit was @£50m for instance RA would write it off.
We're in a far better financial position in the eyes of UEFA and their silly new laws than the like of Man.U. or Liverpool for example :)
