Man Utd - buy a midfielder!

I wouldn't recall Miller even if it was possible, he really failed to impress anyone at Old Trafford because the expectations were too high, Ferguson touted him as the next Roy Keane. Imagine the expectations on him if we could call him back from a Championship side that he appears settled at, to central midfield at the top of the Premiership during a real injury crisis. And if memory serves right, he spent more time on the treatment table at Old Trafford than being in a position to be selected for the first team or bench.

De Jong and Kompany are the 2 players I'd have in mind, both excellent and potentially great signings and more importantly, neither is out of our price range.
De Jong now and Kompany the player he's talking about in the Summer.

It was in a dream I had a couple of nights ago that Kompany was the player who was in Europe and his club wouldn't let him go until the summer, so I will go with my instincts.

All we have to do is limp into summer.

Even if right this minute we blew 800million on Zidane, Ronaldinho, Vieira, Eto, Lampard and Gerrard, we still:

Couldnt win the Prem from this position.
Do anything in the CL, as we are not there.

The way Fergie is looking at things is:

If we can scrape past Blackburn at OT in the Worthless cup, we WILL beat Arsenal in the final as they are hopeless away from Highbury, embarrasingly bad in fact.

If we can get a home draw against the likes of liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in the FA cup, we can beat any of those with our makeshift midfield of Smith and Fletcher, IF they play well, and IF Rooney and Van Nistelrooy are fit, and on form.

Buying a stop gap player will waste money we simply dont have anymore, he has identified the player he wants in the summer and that Obi Mikel ratbag has been told he has to legally honour the contract he signed with united by a court in........... belgium is it?
So we just have to wait.

DeJong/Gravesen wouldn't be stop gaps at all, they would infact free Smith to go back upfront and we could sell Saha and make money back.

Also, we probably could win the league if we had Lampard as Chelsea wouldn't have him.

Gravesen is a must, he also wouldnt be a stop gap.

Even if we signed 2 worldclass first eleven midfileders in the summer we still need squad players.

Gravesen would be perfect for utd, he is 29 porbably has 3-4 years ahead of him, proven in the Pl, available cheap and would seriously strengthen not only our midfield but the team as a whole.

Fergie probably will never sign him.

I would sell Saha as well, I'm just waiting for him to get injured and be sidelined for another couple of months while we continue to pay him £50,000+ a week. I honestly think all players should be paid the same basic wage, and get paid on top of that for appearances, goals and contribution to the team when they play.

thing is when he was fit, he was employed on the right wing.

he is a central midfielder. another tactical masterstroke by fergie.

giggs in center midfield?!!

o'shea being touted as a center midfield?!

fletcher playing for Man Utd?!!

when will it all end/

lol, when I read that it sounded like a news flash, like..."Breaking News...Sky Sports...we have the following stories" ;) :p

Maybe the fact that Fergies been playing Rio in Midfield the last few weeks in training and then purchasing two defender might be a clue :P

The whispers are that he's been doing so well there with his direct passing, tackling ability, game reading and being able to hold the midfield in one pience, and then his runs that Fergies now considering him as a possible midfielder for the rest of the season, not for anything more than that though. Only problem is his place in defence for the World Cup.

We talked to graverson before transfer window but he would have to take a pay cut from what he was on at real. Didnt hear back after that I think.

I'd go for De Jong myself. Good player and a better age. I agree with the abovve about Rio, its was thought he's end up as a centre mid when he was coming through the ranks as hes so good on the ball. Even the 20 mins against Burton he got he was hugely better than O'Shea. With Brown looking back to his best and Vidic coming in I can see him at least trying it tonight if we get a lead.

rio is class, ok he had a bad month or two at the end of last year, but he is pure class and is such a good footballer, passing and just being on the ball, he could do a job there if this new guy turns out to be any good at the back, trouble is the press will go mad at fergie for this!

Rio is shocking at reading the game. Its a good job he's got a bit of pace else those that don't know much about defending would know that.

what a daft thing to say! Rio can't read the game... your just bitter cos he left leeds for a better team...

why is it he is one of the best defenders in the game... and WOULD walk into any team and i mean any team............

Walk being the correct word :p

Most pundits and commentators seem to all say he is good at reading the game, so I will go with that.

He still dosnt strike me as being hard enough as a central defender, and still looks prone to losing concentration.
