not sure
Hi all I have set up a small home dedicated ARMA2 ACE2 server.

But I want to be able to manage it with out having to go to that computer.

So is there a way to update it etc from me main computer?.
I know about remote desktop thing well a little any ways but I would like to be able to do it over the internet to and if possible turn the pc on and off over the net (WAKE ON LAN?).

if any one has some ideas as I have no clue when it comes to this sort of thing that would be great :)

Thanks

Sorry server is running XP pro and main pc that I want to connect from is WIN7

Forward the RDP port to the server 3389..

Pretty sure you can't use WOL over wan because it broadcasts.. Maybe login in to your router and wake it from there if it supports it..
Although its a server, it should be on..

This

Although its a server, it should be on..

If it is only a part-time game server, no point it running 24/7.

Make a mega low-power machine to leave on in front of it. SSH into that machine and open the CD drive which is handily placed to press the keyboard buttons to wake the machine up when it opens. Job done.

Firstly WOL CAN work across the internet

I had to do the same thing myself , here is how to do it

1. Configure the NIC on the server to use wake on lan

2. Get the IP address and MAC address of your server (ipconfig /all in dos window)

3. Forward a port on your router to the IP of your server (7)

4. go here http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli.aspx
he has a web based wake tool you can use , remember u need to use your EXTERNAL IP , stick in rest of details and hit send

5. IF using rdp forward the correct port to your local machine , if using uvnc make sure you use an encryption plugin

Above guy also has a command line tool u can use to test out if it works locally (between 1 PC in your house and server)
before trying it on the internet.

I use this method to remote wake my media PC from work :) , I then use remotely anywhere to remote control it (work restricts web traffic to 80/443)
