Oh mighty Mancunians of OCUk, meeting a friend for a date towards the end of next week, and looking for ideas, or more suggestions on places people have had good experiences.

Restaurant; we're looking for somewhere Italian preferably, or potentially somewhere mediterranean ie, sea food.

Also somewhere for cocktails/drinks. Obviously googled this but they seem a much of a muchness.

Not sure if we're going to be doing just those two; my next idea was Frog and Bucket comedy club, but please, offer suggestions :)

Fall back option. Find one of the new art Bees, grab a drink somewhere near, find another bee, another drink/activity nearby, etc etc,

Can't offer Manchester specific suggestions - unless I throw in a disparaging comment about northern birds and declare that chain restaurants found in any city would probably suffice - i.e. Jamie's Italian + be at one cocktail bar (Am kidding, mostly ;) )

But I will say that I think a comedy club is an excellent idea for a date, especially if it is a first or second date. I think some indication of their sense of humour is quite important and if they're happy to laugh at any really inappropriate jokes then you've potentially got yourself a keeper :)

Rosso is a really nice resturant.

For cocktails northern quarter is where you want to go, bit hipster but in a good way.

For whiskey cocktails (and comfy leather sofas) try the whiskey jar next to it there's a tequila bar.

There's another good one people keep recommending but I can't rember the name of it.

For Italian, Salvi’s is miles better than Rosso or San Carlo. The latter two are just footballer haunts.

For cocktails in a relaxed setting the NQ is a good suggestion. For trendy drinks the bars at Manchester House or 20 Stories are the best bet but they’re a bit try hard for me. For an in between option, the new lobby bar at the Midland hotel is a really nice setting.

Whistle Punks axe throwing followed by a hot curry at Akbar's?

Around Spinningfields isn't too bad for cocktails. Alchemist, Dockyards, The Refinery and 20 Stories being 4 ok places. Not really my kind of places but I know lots of people like them. There's a few of the bees around Spinningfields too for you to spot.

Just be wary that things could get busy Fri/Sat (as with any city).

Gusto on Deansgate does really nice food, also nice cocktails in there too. Slug and Lettuce are good for cocktails but go for the Albert Square one instead of Deansgate to avoid the X41/43 bus queue asshats.
Northern Quarter is always a good shout like already mentioned for cocktails, Tikki Lounge has a good atmosphere

Can recommend apotheca for drinks and tnq for food. Both in the northern quarter. :)

If you're looking for something more central maybe take a look at the Corn Exchange offerings.

Mediterranean but not specifically seafood, Evuna (tapas) has always been great whenever I have been, they have an NQ branch but only been to the Deansgate one. In the NQ Dusk Till Pawn is decent for cocktails and a bit different and also on Stevenson's square so it's near to other places like Tiki Lounge, The Patron, Corner Cocktail Club (although this might be shut atm) and all the rest the Northern Quarter has to offer.
