Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to lift his ban on talking to the BBC.

Ferguson began his boycott of the broadcaster in 2004 after it made allegations against his son, Jason, in a TV documentary.

A statement said: "Sir Alex and the BBC have put behind them the difficulties which led to Sir Alex feeling unable to appear on BBC programmes."

United's next game is against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The joint statement, released on Thursday, follows a meeting between Sir Alex and the BBC's director general, Mark Thompson, and BBC North director Peter Salmon.

It added: "The issues have been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.

"Sir Alex will now make himself available to the BBC for Match of the Day, Radio 5 live and other outlets as agreed.

"No further comment will be made by either party on this issue."

Blimey, 7 years and they finally buried the hatchet. Good to see, I've missed his dulcet tones on the beeb.

I'm surprised Rotty didn't start this thread, he usually does all the Ferguson threads. :p

It's going to be strange seeing him on match of the day, got used to seeing Phelan's bald head being interviewed. It won't be long until people are complaining about his post match comments. :p

As a united fan even I am not particularly fussed this has happened, he never says much anyway in his interviews, and Phelan just says what he is told to say anyway, it makes no odds.
Instead of one guy saying the same cliched crap, you have another guy saying it.
Since they are completely banned from commenting of the performances of referees now, what exactly have they got to say? yes it was/wasnt a sending off/penalty/redcard/goal, and seeing as anything that has led to a negative result against the side will be met with a complete rubbishing of the validity of the decision, its entirely pointless anyway.

I dont wanna Fergie bash and have nothing against him but I preferred Phelan's interviews! :D Will miss em.

rumour has it that he is up for sports personality of the year. would have been a little difficult if they hadn't buried the hatchet!

That's because he's turned his attention to the FA now...

Ferguson, 69, said: "The FA may realise who has produced more players for their country than any club in the world.

"Maybe they will realise how important we are to England instead of treating us like ****.

Yeah that's right Fergie you produced them and not the clubs you bought them off :D

One generation of kids in the modern era and lets be honest only Beckham, Neville and partly scholes were any good for England and all the rest he bought.

It will be under his guidance that they will win their caps.

Ashley Young will become a fixture in the England team
Smalling and Jones will become permanent squad members
Cleverley also.

Danny has a point though, they might be winning their caps under United's colours but they were 'made' elsewhere.
Honestly, all the top sides are guilty of producing no one good enough to play for the national team, most of them are poached whilst in their early 20's from the same old clubs (West Ham etc).

Very true and i dont disagree but thats a different argument.

The players I mentioned will become England regulars because they will now be seen as as being tested at the highest level i guess.
