Manchester United get a lottery grant

While I appreciate that the money could go to worthier causes, most lottery grants go to stupid places for stupid reasons. This is just another case of a grant going somewhere it's not needed. £30,000 could kit out a youth centre for kids with good computers, a library, kitchen, etc. But no, that would make sense to the rest of us.

A lottery grant so the stewards can do yoga and go for walks? Or maybe going towards Rooneys gambling debts?

Awesome

hmm, a £30,000 grant for a club which had an income of £166.4m last year.....

sickening

Dont foget to vomit your misdirected bile towards Granada TV, Warrington and Rochdale councils as well.

Carlton Communications who own Granada TV had a turnover of 1.9 BILLION last year and Pre tax profits of 320 million.

''Over three years it will fund yoga lessons and lunchtime walking sessions for staff.''

how exactly do you fund going for a walk ? :D

"misdirected bile", interesting...

Manchester United are a world class sporting establishment with world class health and fitness facilities. They specialise in fitness, and rely on their top-earning employees staying in peak physical condition to ensure they perform on the pitch. Quite how they need £30,000 to care for their staff, considering they already have world class sporting facilities, infrastructure and expertise in place, is beyond comprehension.

No, that is NOT the reason why you were sickened by it.

You were sickened by the amount of money they turned over while still getting a lottery grant.

It says quiet clearly in your first post.

It's interesting that i'm now being told what does and doesn't sicken me.

Manchester United are arguably one of the world's top earning football clubs, and considering the business they're in, combined with their facilities and spending power it's baffling that they have even applied for this grant.

Besides, this is a sports discussion - you've taken it off-topic bringing in the likes of Granada tv, Warrington and Rochdale council. Let's keep this as a sports discussion and not enter into any petty arguments.. end of.

Well stick to the argument you raised then.
Your reasons stated for being sickened was the amount of money they earn, as i've pointed out you say it quite clearely in your first post.
I'm well aware that you have since elaberated on your reasons for feeling as if you were going to forcefully expell the contents of your stomach through your mouth when reading about United getting some lottery funds.

If you had read further on into the article linked to the story, you will find that Granada and the councils were award funds FOR THE SAME THING.
BOTH make huge amounts of money (more than United) and both got the money as well.

You should be twice as bilious when you hear about Granda getting the money as they make twice as much profit.

If you spent a little time and read up on which other large and highly lucrative businesses get lottery grants, you may very well suffer a full prolapse of your digestive tract.

These patronizing and frankly condescending remarks are wearing thin.

The point I have raised previously, (and will raise again for you) is that Manchester United have world-class health and fitness facilities, yet they only make them accessible to a small minority of the workforce (i.e. the playing staff). They have applied for lottery funding - this, I take issue with.

However, you can bet your bottom dollar that Granada TV, and the Warrington/Rochdale councils do not have such facilities available. Therefore, I have no issues with Granada TV, Rochdale and Warrington council receiving said grants.

I guess we can agree to disagree..

Becuause the grant has gone to an organisation who could live with dropping 30k down the back of the sofa. Its like giving Microsoft £1m to bring them up to date on technology.
I know , it makes me feel sick at the thought of it.
It also makes me feel like I have diarrhoea. :(
