Manchester United set to reveal Sir Alex Ferguson statue

So long as he isn't there or part of the unveiling I'll be happy.

Find it too weird when people are standing there looking at their own statue.

Fergie has some odd moments these days but no-one will surpass his achievements, fully deserved tribute.

It depends on how you look at his achievements. 12 (*15) leagues and 2 European Cup in 26 (*34) years doesn't compared too favourably to Paisely who won 6 leagues and 3 European Cups in 9 years or somebody like Mourinho who has won 7 Leagues and 2 European Cups in 10 years.

edit: forgot to add - *including Aberdeen.

Depends on the relative competitiveness of the teams they were facing in the relevant leagues.

I remember the 1999 season. I think I was only 8, but it will be something that I'll never forget. The UEFA Champions League final was also something I remember being legendary.

Whether Fergie is the greatest or not isn't really a matter for discussion. There is absolutely no denying that Fergie has been one of the greatest of all time.

I wasn't disputing whether he was one of the greatest but whether his achievements will ever be surpassed. There's been and are managers around now that have achieved, at the very least, similar amounts of success as he has.

Unless Paisley is planning to rise from the dead he isn't going to surpass his achievements, at least in terms of league titles, because you can't just extrapolate what he did win. Mourinho might, because he has age on his side and is willing to bed hop in order to win things. Fergie has to be admired for his longevity and continuing desire, he is incredibly driven.

As I said, it depends on how you look at his achievements. When you've been manager of the most financially dominant club in England and one of the most financially dominant in Europe for 26 years, you're going to have a certain amount of success. My argument is that given the amount of time he's been at Utd (and with the resources he's had for the most part), I'm not sure how you can say it's a greater achievement than Paisley's or a few other managers.

Longevity is great but doesn't make you the greatest or else Ryan Giggs would be Utd's greatest ever player (or Phil Neal Liverpool's) but he's not.

Fergie will be remembered as one of the great managers but I very much doubt he'll be remembered by many but Utd fans as the greatest and other than managing one club for 26 years, I can't see what else he's achieved that hasn't or won't continue be replicated or bettered in real terms.

edit: and to be clear, I'm not saying x or y are better/the greatest - there's so many factors to take into account that it's incredibly subjective. I'm merely responding to the point about nobody surpassing what he's won.

Will they also have a bottle of whiskey in his hand??:p

Seriously though, its well deserved for him. Im not a huge fan of him personally but his achievements for Utd have been out of this world.

SAF, Greatest of all time.

Good manager.

For a long time though nobody could touch our spending power and I dont think people appreciate the advantage that gives a club.

Even now we are still able to outspend every club in europe on a transfer bar the finacially doped clubs.
