Mandriva crashing while loading the window manager..

Hi. I 'm using Mandrive 2007 linux and have a problem. every now and again (about 1 in 3 timeS) when i start it the system freezes on the "Loading the window manager" part of loading KDE.

Surely theres an EVENTID type option in linux that i can loook at to tel me what's going on?

wierd thing is when i press the power button it exits and shutsdown properly.

Can you open up a new terminal session, when the hang does occur, by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1? If so, you could have a look at the X logs and see if there's anything helpful listed there.

Would there be anything written to your logs to indicate a problem?

/var/log/messages
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/boot.log
/var/log/dmesg

There is a System Logs gui for Gnome, no idea if it is in KDE or not though?
