This sounds a perfect fit for Fox - sci-fi mystery that gets axed after one season.

It's going nowhere. They have no idea what to do with it once the 'event'/'mystery' premise they pitched to the network was put to footage in a pilot. So it's slowly grinding to the same sort of 'detective with magic sidekick solve crime/mystery of the week' round the mill thing.
