We're buying a car from Mansfield on Saturday. It's around a 2hr drive down from Preston and so i debated turning it into an overnight stay.

I looked on google images and it seems a fairly generic town centre. Just trying to work out whether it's worthwhile actually doing so or whether to drive back home the same day. Especially as the weather isn't looking too good.

You could go for a wonder round clumber park or Sherwood Forest and the major oak, there’s creswell craggs too all a short drive from each other , also the peak district , Matlock / bakewell etc are short drive away

Cheers, i drove through Matlock once (funnily enough on the way to pick up a previous car from Nottingham!)

Would you suggest finding a smaller hotel somewhere like that rather than staying in the centre?

Good point on the Peak District though, maybe i should just find a nice country hotel and just potter around that.

@Martynt74 I didn'r realise you are in Preston these days! I'm off at J33 on the six. Are you going down to Manc and over Snake Pass? Or 62 then 1 (maybe cutting the corner via Huddersfield)?

Back on topic, you could go spotting closed collieries.

Ah not far at all, i often go paddle boarding on the Lune at junction 34. We're just down near Salmesbury. Preston has started improving quite a bit for nice bars etc, doesn't feel i'm missing as much from Manchester anymore!

No idea yet on route, most likely just whack the post code into Google maps, but the return journey could be whichever way we want.

@SPG cheers, to be honest that's all we're really after, just somewhere nice and quiet, somewhere to stop over night and have a bit of a walk out and some decent food to avoid spending 5 hours in a car.

You lucky *******, i paddle down and get unbelieveably jealous of those houses.

In fact i recall seeing one for sale a few months back, probably not the same one as this one may have been just the other side of the motorway, but there are some lovely places around there.

Will keep an eye out, i have an email about the Blue Nativ recently on Vivino which caught my eye.

Ah absolute moron. I could've parked up at yours, gone for a paddle and then returned and drank all your booze :D
