Mantle/Dx low level api questions

First apologies if this is the wrong section, but this seems to be where most of the mantle discussion goes on.

Just wondering, would it be possible that low level api's could increase ram usage, or affect pci-e 3.0 usage?

I'm thinking more data sent - more ram used - increased bandwidth needed?

Most articles I've read discussing the facts say we're not even saturating pci-e 2.0 but are pre mantle and quite old (2012)
 
There isn't really a clear cut answer to that - if your rendering increased framerates there is the possibility of increased bus utilisation (depends on how the game works) theoretically VRAM usage would be slightly more efficent but the API gives you better control over what your doing so you might take advantage of that to increase the quality of an effect = higher VRAM use, etc. so it would depend a bit on what the programmer was doing.
 
From going by what my bf4 clan mates have been saying, mantle uses a good bit more gpu vram than DX. Pcie wise on dx 11 with nvidia cards, i found no difference when using sli gtx 670's in my old i7 930 rig, (dual x16 pcie 2) and the rig in sig which is dual x8 pcie 3.
