Well with perfect well-timed and rapid gear changes on DCT transmissions, it's hard to see how they're not slightly faster than their manual counterparts.
Love a good manual box, the MX-5 has a totally divine gearchange, it's a pleasure to use the gearbox, same goes for the S2000, 944 and 911, fantastic manual boxes.
I dislike autos because they usually take longer to get to 60 and rob some MPGz...
Looks like your right about the times "0-60 Tiptronic 7.0sec, manual 6.5secs" but not about the box not being great, top gear and their contemporaries raved about how great it was back in the day, however Porsche defiantly said that the 911 tip was faster than their manual "0-60 mph: 3.7 sec. manual/3.4 sec. Tiptronic S".
