Many files not copying in WinXP Pro install

When trying to install Windows XP Pro onto a fresh-built Shuttle SK22G2, I'm getting lots of messages telling me files cannot be copied and either to skip, retry or abort. How so?

I reckon now that it's because I neglected to install the SATA drivers. Problem is, I have no floppy drive.

Would setup see it if I plugged in a USB key with the drivers on?

Honestly not sure about that. But you could integrate the drivers using nLite. You'd have to copy the Windows disc over to your PC then run nLite and integrate the drivers before making an ISO file that you then burn to CD/DVD and run.

You could even configure nLite to remove any bits of Windows you don't use/need and even enter your CD key to make the install automated, unattended and a bit quicker.

How do I check all this stuff? I don't have an endless supply of components to swap in and out on a whim.

Borrow them then.

The only way to troubleshoot is to test new components. If you can't do that, you won't get anywhere I'm afraid.

It isnt the fact you didn't install SATA drivers, as if that were the case, Windows setup would not be able to see the drive to install onto in the first place.

I had a similar problem to you about six weeks ago.

No matter which CD I attempted to install from (My originals or the slipstreamed versions I'd made) I'd get an error on various files being copied.

Hardware:

Conroe
Gigabyte DS4
WD SATA HD on ICH8R (AHCI Mode)
Samsung SATA CD/DVD-RW

F6 boot as I was running the HD in AHCI mode I needed to install the drivers early on during the installation.

Attempted numerous times and just couldn't get anywhere.
In the end I found that if I kept the HD's in "Standard IDE" mode rather than AHCI and so no longer needed to F6 then everything installed fine.

If I wanted to keep the HDs in AHCI mode then I found removing the Samsung CD/DVD-ROM drive and replacing it with my old PATA CD/DVD-ROM drive was the only option I had.

In the end I kept the HDs in AHCI, went back to my Pioneer PATA CD/DVD-ROM drive and sold my Samsung SATA drive for almost the same as what I'd paid for it - for some reason my motherboard or the SATA drivers just didn't seem to like a SATA optical drive.
