Hi there

First of all watch this guys:-

Those of you buying a Sony PS4 should be considering an SSD to half your game loading times, as the default HDD in the PS4 is a mechanical 5400rpm, very slow!

The site/video in question used the Samsung 840 EVO which we presently have on weekly special and is one of the best SSD's we sell. :)

Now for some new Intel and OCZ offerings:-

Some very nice new shiny SSD's indeed! :D

The only issue is the cost.

You spend about £400 for a ps4 then then another £300 on an ssd of equal size (500gb i think?)

so you end up with a £700 console, when you could buy a prebuilt pc thats more powerful for the same or less.

The Intel ones seem...expensive. I'm not particularly clued up on SSD specs, so could someone explain why I should pay £80 for an 80gb drive when I could get a 120gb Samsung EVO for the same price?

For a PS4 upgrade wouldn't a SSHD Hybrid Drive be a potentially better idea for increased speed Vs capacity and cost?

Does anyone know how well one would work in a PS4?

For a PS4 upgrade wouldn't a SSHD Hybrid Drive be a potentially better idea for increased speed Vs capacity and cost?

Does anyone know how well one would work in a PS4?

Since we have no idea if the PS4 passes TRIM commands and such I'd probably use a SSHD drive myself rather than a full SSD, a lot cheaper too.

Why do the specs seem low on the intel ones when compared to the OCZ ones, yet the intel ones are more expensive?

The OCZ ones even have more warranty. The intels seem a bum buy.

What makes the look great? Underspecced and over priced compared to the Samsung Evo's

Prices are much better here than I've seen them for elsewhere, not sure if OcUK have a really good deal or of Intel's doing one of their rare price drops. Also, these can't really be compared to the Evo, different target market.

One query I do have is that in reviews I've seen, the DC S3500 series have been stated as having a 5 year warranty, but the product page here says 3 year. Have the warranty terms been changed outside the US, or are they actually 5 year and it's just a typo?

I've got an old Intel SSD in my netbook which has been solid.

So far I've had 5 SSDs, I have a samsung Evo and a Crucial M4 in my main rig atm which are both reasonably new, the rest:
Samsung (I forget the model but before they branded with the orange square): Died just out of warranty.
Crucuial M4: After about a year and a half started playing up, now sat on my desk as I never got round to returning it.
Intel 320: Had for about 4 years I think, still going strong.

What's up with Intel? These new ssd's are much slower and more expensive than their competition. Back up to £1 per gigabyte for a much slower drive and only a three year warranty.

Even with all the positives of going intel, at that price (for me) they are still way too expensive..

I would have thought a hybrid would be a great option for PS4..

Pretty uncompetitive pricing from Intel. Why would anyone choose these over a cheaper and faster Sammy Evo?

Also what is the point in having so many different capacities?
