Maplins RCA cables were brilliant.

First hope we can mention Maplins now they have gone bankrupt.

Some may find this post a bit random, others might not. I purchased some Maplins RCA cables the other month in their closing down sale. They were mid range RCA cables (no not pro, and not value). Cutting to chase there the most neutral cable i've ever had, really low resistance also, even the plugs ends are really good. No colouring the sound from these cables.

They were that good, in the first 30 seconds of listening I knew they were good, I then spent 2 hours listening to CD's, then drove back to store and purchased another 10 box's.

If your at least 50% interested in audio quality and your connecting anything via RCA cables, try and source some Maplins RCA cables because there just brilliant.

I was wandering around the Liverpool St. and St Paul's ones the other week, hoping to find something of interest but ours were just filled with scart cables, s-video cables and batteries.

Out of interest, what are you going to do with 10 boxes of RCA leads?

 You always could as long as you weren't linking computer parts :)

FACT
Back in 2003 when I first joined I got banned for 2 days on my first day because I mentioned Maplin.
Two days later I had no idea what I'd done and asked the same question which was nothing to do with what OCUK stocked and got banned for a week.
I went up to the shop, Spie unbanned me and told me not to say Maplin again :)

is it impolite to ask how much and how long ?

I purchased 5m, 1.5m and 0.75m.

The 0.75m was the best as I felt the sound was very slightly better (less resistance as you expect on a shorter cable, more detail), however the 5m was also very good and no problems using it if I needed that length.

Cost of cables was £2 each, that cheap could not leave them there. However if cables were £20 plus I would still be saying the same about them.

And this is the interesting bit. The first cable I purchased was the 5m, I was not expecting anything from it and for £2 purchased just in case I needed a cheap long RCA cable. However I tested it out of a curiosity, I knew it was good in 30 seconds, I spent 2 hours listening to that cable, even switching back to other cables to re-listen. I then went back to store and got the 0.75m and 1.5m, and the 0.75m was even better then the 5m.

Yeah it was definitely against the rules when even when I joined the team in 2007. Thankfully we made some changes to the rules which made things a little more sane, to the benefit of both members and mods!

Maplin were odd, some of their products were great quality and decent value, others were simply overpriced trash. I worked for them for a few months after leaving uni and it was a challenge being pressured to push products you knew weren't ideal for the customer. I was never (still aren't) an audiophile, so I used to go by what the customer feedback was on the audio equipment, and it was really quite good feedback. It's nice to see they kept that quality up right to the end.
