mapped network drives

I have 2 drives from my spare PC mapped into 'my computer' I don't have this pc on all the time so will see this message everytime I switch on my main PC, is there a way to disable this message?

Don't map the drive mate just share the whole drive or the folders you wish to share, i had the same annoying issue myself. Set the share up on the machine with the drive then from "My computer" on the other machine right click add network location and browse to the shared drive job done :-)

it will then save it on "my computer" but won't connect to it so to speak, you just open the shortcut as a normal shared drive on your network

well the spare pc is running XP so the drives have to be manually added by typing the 'computer name' eg. \\name-0987654321a\folder

right click the clock>customise notification icons. you should be be able to disable it there.

tried that but it resets after a restart

Id say dont map it if you dont use it all the time, just create a shortcut on your desktop.
