Mapping a Drive

I am trying to map a network drive. The drive i wish to map is an p machine and the pc is called PETERCOMP.

In the Map Network Drive dialog box I click browse and the Netwrok folder tree expands but does not show PETERCOMP. The folder I wish to map as the drive is set to be shared

Any ideas?

are both machines in the same workgroup?

Nah, it wasn't, just put them both in the same workgroup and restarting it. I'll let you know if it works!

It's now appearing in the list but it still won;t let me access it

Firewall?
Is it a particular folder you are trying to map, if so check the permissions.

Turn off simple file sharing on the host machine and try again. make sure you have permissions for it too on the security tab.

Do you have an account of the same name / password on both PCs? This is necessary I believe to access other drives if they are on a PC (not necessary if Network Attached Storage)?

Is the drive/folder shared? And is sharing enabled through the firewall and on the Ethernet adaptor?

when mapping a drive (dialog box with 2 text boxes for path), there's an option to connect via a different username and password

Which version of windows are you using? XP Home, XP Professional, Vista or something else?
