Hi All,

I have recently purchased a 2003 WRX ... tis great, well impressed so far!

I have been told to get the down pipe changed and get it mapped -- what kind of prices are we looking at to get this done? Who would you recommend? I have noticed quite a lot of people on here with imprezas, what have you done to them? best bang for bucks mod?

When i brought it i was told the boost had been up'd to 1.2bar, its had a new back box and one of the cats removed + a green standard replacement filter... what kind of power output would this be at now .... at a guess?

I have had a look on the net and am going to scoobyclinic next week to get the cam belt changed and a 60 month service. Having a rolling road test too (whoever guesses the bhp gets a cookie! :D)

Cheers all

Where are you?

The god of remapping scoobs is Bob Rawle, who mainly works out of Swindon, but sometimes visits other places, especially London. Doesn't do the hardware though I believe, just the mapping. The rest of the Premier Division are Paul Blamire (Zen Performance, who do mine) and Andy Forrest (in Scotland). Close behind them are Pat Herborn and Simon Roe (aka Jolly Green Monster). If you are within range of Scoobyclinic then you're within range of Zen, so I'd recommend them - although I might be biased.

I'd be interested to know how the boost has been raised: 2003 scoobs use the Ecutek ECU, and the best way is to remap it. If that was how it was done, you need to find who did the mapping, otherwise you'll have to pay a second unlock fee (£450) for anyone else to do a remap. You can use an external boost controller, but I really would advise against it except in conjunction with a remap.

I assume by "getting the downpipe changed" you mean fitting a decat, and thus mostly decatting the car? (The WRX also has a cat in the up-pipe, but that has little effect on performance.) Losing the second cat might gain you 10bhp if you're lucky. Changing the backbox just makes it louder; it has no effect on performance.

If the boost really has been raised, and everything else works properly, then you might be at about 240-250bhp - but I'd only believe it if I saw it on a rolling road. If the boost is standard (0.9 bar IIRC) then you're probably at about 220bhp. But I'm not sure if the WRX turbo can take 1.2, which is another reason I'm sceptical.

Best bang for buck? The remap. Especially if you don't have to pay the unlock fee. Don't get too ambition either - the WRX engine is only reliable to about 340bhp.

Im in shropshire scoobyclinic is a little closer, at the mo im going there for a cambelt change and a service, prices seem okay. Zen looks good tho!

hmm will check this out with him tomoz, hopefully i dont have to pay the unlocking fee! Will get the car on the rollz on tuesday!

Just a bit of a update .. took my car to Scooby clinic yesterday and popped it on the rolling road and it got 269.5bhp (lets just say 270bhp ;)) & 255 torque so it had been mapped previously

Had a good look over it only 1 of the cats have been removed, they said if i remove the other cats and just get a hi-flow cat for the downpipe i should hit 280ish ... so im very happy with the result .. great place too :D:D:D:D
