I counted 6 votes for sunset/sunrise, 1 for water and 10 for black and white/monochrome making that the theme for the month of March.

Black and white is a good theme because most people don't really think about the photo before making a conversion. Either they have a photo they intended to do in colour but something didn't work out like the lighting or saturation, or they intended a B&W photo at capture time but without thinking why and how, just replicating the process for used a colour photo. You need to think why the photo deserves a B&W treatment, why it would be beneficial to remove colour information, how does removing information improve the outcome? Colour is a powerful compositional tool so compositions can often be harder, yet with less information certain aspects like form, shape, lines and texture are highlighted.
I'm looking forward to the results!

Entries are to be submitted here. You can submit whenever you want during March and can edit your post to give a new photo, or keep things under wraps and post at the end of the month. All photos must be taken during March.

From April 1st people will be able to vote for their favorite photo. I also encourage people to try to leave feedback for as many other entries as they can. This is just a fun competition to get things started and relies upon honesty and trust not to cheat or provide biased voting.

Good Luck!
PS: our first baby is due end of the month so most likely I won't be able to monitor the thread or organize the scoring at the end. I trust someone else can take care of that once all entries are in.

Buzzing, was yours taken in march :p

yeah, I think there is an issue.

For this month's competition we are using the same rules as before whereby the photo has to be taken in the same month as the competition. In general I would like this rule completely dropped but some people want it maintained so for March I requested that all photos must be taken this month, sorry.

This is the most important and powerful photo I have ever taken. 9 months in the making and 36hrs of blood, sweat and tears from mum. This shot all comes down to the timing, about 5 minutes after birth there was this brief moment of harmony; the eyes opened and the first of many smiles flashed across her face. My eyes welled, my heart melted and I luckily got this photo.

Olympus EPM-2, 14-42 kit lens, kit flash, aperture priority wide open and auto ISO. Processed In PS express on the iPad.
