March competition

Considering the discussion thread lies dead this is my last ditch attempt. I'm not going to take any responsibility but this is my suggestion to get the ball rolling for those interested:

  1. From now until Feb28th people vote for one of these 3 topics : 1) Sunrise/Sunset, 2) water, 3)Black & White
These are 3 topics (decided by me, i'm sorry but the last attempt failed) that I think are completely generic, you can photograph portraits, abstracts, nature whatever under all 3 topics.
  2. March 1st votes are totaled and the highest voted is selected.
  3. People post their own entries in a thread created March 1st. People can post whenever they want until the deadline March 31s and are free to update as and when they want. Yes, we will know who took which photograph but when it comes to voting we must trust honest voting. Doing anything with blind submission takes too much organization it seems.
  4. In April for 1 week everyone will be able to cast a vote for their favourite photo. There is no scoring for March because that discussion led no where. You are free to come up with your own metrics, just apply them fairly across all images. Whomever gets the most votes wins absolutely nothing. Thhis is just to get people taking part!

This is a very limited competition with serious shortcomings but since no one seems to want to organize anything or more likely have the time I think it is a start. In April someone can think of doing something differently.
This approach should have minimal effort to sort out.

Presumably the photo has to be taken on or after March 1st?

I think so for this competition. In general I would like this restriction lifted but this was met with some negativity so for March all photos must be taken in March. Saturday is the 1st so this should work out for most people.

Looks like we have some votes now.

Tomorrow at around 5pm EST (10PM in the) I will total the votes and start a submission thread.

Does this count as the first 'Round' in a new season? If so, shall I update the results site once all the results are in, just so we have a record of who took / scored what?

I don't think there will be a season, rounds or results to keep track of really. Each competition was intended to be an independent event whenever someone can be bothered to organize one.
If you start having running totals then it is not welcoming for beginners, newcomers or people that want to casually take part when they have time or motivation.

We also don't have much of a scoring system agreed upon. For March people will just vote for their favourite photo and the votes are totaled to find the winner, but feedback to multiple/all photos is desirable.
