Other than salt or no salt making a difference in butter, I don't honestly think I can tell any difference whether I get a block of tesco's own english butter or some more expensive brand. Same with margarine. I saw a TV ad tonight for Clover spread where all the people are eating like they've never tasted anything like it before. Obviously they need to do that to sell the product, but I'm assuming there are people who can really tell the difference. Who here can tell the difference between different spreads and butters? I can't. I can't believe it's not butter, Butter Me Up, Flora,.. you name it, all the same to me.

Im not a big butter fan, but can tell the difference between good quality and lesser quality. All i use is a marg called Stork, since i was young and my parents used it.

To me the difference in taste is pretty obvious and butter tastes miles better. However, I normally get spread (olive oil based). Though the last time I bought some I bought the wrong one (right brand but wrong derivative) and I noticed the first time I used it.

Butter is far better than spread. However, I buy spread as butter is a bit too unhealthy (though given you don't use much generally, does it really matter?).

Whatever is on offer for eating (olivio, flora or whatever) and Stork or equivalent big tub of cheap marg for cooking/baking.

Some people actually say that butter is better for you than all these spreads as they all contain synthetic fats.

Personally I cannot stand the taste of margarine or any other spread it ruins the flavour of everything, has to be butter every time.

I never eat the processed margarine rubbish - butter everytime!

As for marg being healthier - fat isn't bad for you. Low-fat diets are the biggest load of rubbish in the history of humanity.

Absolutely agree!

And as for butter vs Marg, absolutely no contest.

Margarine is putrid, rancid & processed to within an inch of its life, whereas butter is a very pure food with many potential health benefits not to mention its amazing taste.

We're lucky to live in a region with amazing butter that comes from the raw milk (as well as pasteurised if preferred) of grass-fed cows.

I personally cant tell the difference but i will be particular when it comes to baking like using stork or something which i wouldnt use with my toast
