Marilyn Manson - Crackpot/Genius or both?

Hi all,

headed over to the official manson website (cant link, as adult material you'll see if you go there) to see whats happening in his world, because he was giving up music to do his "films" and then he was doing another album...

only to find that there is no website there at all, just a small flash file that loops over and over, pondering on why i decided to have a search

came across mansonusa.com and specifically this thread

which has information about whats going on with the website.

now ive finally decided that he is actually a crackpot and has lost it completely, along with half of his fans!

and i still have no idea whether he is recording an album or not!?!?!

Hes an intellegent guy and a brilliant self publicist, hes drawing people in to maintain a profile whilst he mucks about with his other projects

good point, its got me interested a bit more than just thinking "has he got a new album coming out"

its just a little too weird for my liking really

Liked some of his early stuff (pre mechanical animals) but anything since has made me want to beat him with the soggy end of his 12 year old fans...

However, as MB said he's very good at keeping himself in the spotlight and he seems to be an intelligent guy.

He was a great songwriter but has disappeared up his own arse since the two other main songwriting talents in the band in Jeordie White and John 5 left the band to go on to greater things.

It's a real pity as with that line up they were a force to be reckoned with.

What is John 5 doing now ? I know Jordie has ended up in NiN, which is cool

Manson has kinda dissapeared up his own arse, was going very well until after mechanical animals, Holy Wood was ok, but then GAOTG was just a complete sack of poo. Although by being an arse he is responsible for star******* inc. by NiN which is one hell of a song.

Geordie is now in APC dude. i hadn't heard the NiN thing, maybe he's in both

personally, i used to love Marilyn Manson. Portrait, Antichrist and Mechanical Animals were pretty much my theme music when i was 14-16. he's an excellent songwriter, and his music just oozes emotion. however, with his latest 2/3 efforts, he seems to have stopped parodying everyone who was torturing him, and started parodying himself. i cant even listen to him speak anymore because he's so damn pretentious.

i still listen to portrait with a lot of fond memories though

edit: i didnt know star****ers was about manson...kinda makes sense though

Geordie was in A Perfect Circle in 2003 and is now playing guitar and bass for NIN (I should know because I saw both tours

I didn't know Star****ers was about Manson either - it's been said it's about Courtney Love as well

I think it's great lyrically regardless of who it's about. Kind of like Tool's 'Hooker With a Penis' or 'Tick's and Leeches'

John 5 has released two solo albums, 'Vertigo' and 'Songs for Sanity' - quite industrial in places, but some of the guitar playing is amazing

Portrait & Antichrist are great albums, Mechanical Animals is alright, everything after pretty much sucks.

Genius is a tad strong, he's a very good musician but he went downhill recently.

Pretty much what he said. I have a lot of fond memories of Mr Brian Warner and his band. I first saw them play at Reading when Antichrist Superstar was just making them (in)famous. I dyed my already long hair black, wore black nail polish and lipstick from time to time and was a goth for a good couple of years. I idolised the guy and his music, and I was well know for being "a freak" in my town.

Many have said that he's all show and no substance but if you look beyond the makeup, the shock tactics and all the other hpye, Anitichrist and Mechanical Animals are two incredible albums musically. Both very different, and notable that NiN Trent had nothing to do with the latter as many said he was the sole musical force behind the musicof MM.

As mentioned already, the music took a distinct turn for the worse after Mechanical Animals and I've long since moved on, but I'm still moved by his earlier work and have some very fond memories of my teenage years wrapped up in those albums.

Ironic as it sounds MM has gone soft the older he gets. Listen the Portiat. It is one F'd up album. No wonder ministers in the UK tried to ban it! MM got some pointers off Trent then went MCDonalds!
