"The above game was launched in the UK today. Unfortunately we have discovered that a small number of games contain the wrong version of the disk due to an assembly error. We have therefore decided to recall all copies of the game from UK retailers so that this mistake can be corrected.

We will re-launch Mario Party 8 in the UK as soon as possible and will announce a new launch date shortly. We very much regret any inconvenience caused."

That is an impressive screw up, anyone here affected?

Again they already delayed a week in the UK due to production errors.

Nintendo of Europe are a bunch of cowboys

It just sounds like they've stuck the NTSC version on some disks - in which case if your version loads up then you should be fine.

More likely in this case it's "Replication plant employees are inept"

It's unusual to have something like this happen in large quantities, but it's not too unusual for a replication plant (almost always a third party working under contract) to mess up a few disks in a production run.
IIRC a few years ago a Disney DVD ended up being in the news as it was actually a porno (I think that is possibly the reason some distributors use plants that don't do certain materials for other companiesl)).

All it takes is someone at the replicator to forget to change the master on one line, or not double check the first disk off the line after a change in the production run for you to get the wrong disk (but with the right print), or for you to get completely the wrong disk (wrong art as well) in the case - the latter is easier to spot though as a visual check will show it.

Fair enough, but they already had to delay it a week due to production issues, so you would think they would be extra careful the 2nd time round.

Wow, is that screenshot legit? Or did someone enter their name as "spastic" so it's just displaying the username..?

Seems legit. The last words all rhyme in Mr Magikoopa's spell incantation or whatever he's doing.

i'm not too sure, there seems to be a bit more distortion/artifacting around parts of the middle line than the others, i can think of a few more words that would prety much fit in the same space and make more sense (plastic being the obvious one).

[edit]
I would even be willing to say it looks like someone has overlaid something over the original word - it may be my eyes, but i can almost see the outline of letters under "spastic" that aren't there under the other words (there is a black outline/shadow on the other words, but not white, unless it's very localised ghosting).

[edit2]
It's also worth noting that the word has different connotations in the U.S. so if it was translated there, the translators may not have been aware that it meant something offensive in the U.K. (a US actress who often joking refers to herself as a retard when she does something silly had to have part of a commentary track beeped to pass the bbfc here).
