Mario Unreal 4 engine

Not under Satoru Iwata's watch. Until he retires/is sacked it'll be gimmick after gimmick instead of simply delivering a solid, classically built games.

Like a lot of people, I'd love to see Nintendo pack in the hardware game and start producing quality titles in the N64/Gamecube mould for the Xbox One and PS4. I miss the Nintendo from those days and have a little resentment for the 'family fun' gimmicky games of the post-GC era. TBH there are games on the Wii U/3DS that I'd love to play. There just aren't enough of them to justify the cost.

I wouldn't mind them doing that too. I haven't played Nintendo since GC days either, and even then it wasn't much - stopped playing them a lot after the SNES era.

I'd much prefer them to just ditch hardware and just make good games.

man, can you imagine the exclusivity war between MS and Sony if that happened? They'd both be throwing money at them to get the rights. lol.

Saying that, the way franchises like Mario have evolved over time, there is little incentive for me to move on from Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World which are both fine to play to this day.
So yes, I'd like to see them go in a different direction to give me a reason to try a new title in one of their franchises.

Cool little demo/vid though - surprising what you can do with basic assets.

That looks excellent :)

Agreed with the above too. I never thought i'd say it, but after the Wii and WiiU I hope Nintendo eventually end up software only.

More an idea how Mario could look with the right hardware.

I just want a new Mario Adventure game. That's what Mario 64 did so well - it was like exploring an actual Mario world in 3D. The subsequent 3D games haven't captured that at all.

It's a nice tech demo, but its not really the right atmosphere is it? Mario isn't real, so why put him in a realistic setting? Zelda would have been a better fit, since at least Link has vaguely correct body proportions!

Besides it being a well made tech demo, its not the way nintendo will go and nor should they. A large proportion of games out there are made to look as hyper realsitic as possible, and the result is that they age very rapidly as tech moves on. Games with a unique art style befitting to the character and the world they live in have much better longevity, and have more character in general.

Its a cool demo nonetheless.

I don't think it looks right , super Mario 3D world visuals are perfect to me, in fact I think all the Nintendo titles like Mario kart etc look perfect !

might upset a few, but why dont nintendo give up on main console hardware and sell games cross platform, games like the one in video will never be made while nintendo make the hardware

why would they? they still make the games they want to and people buy them. graphics don't define a game.

they would also have to water down their innovation to make the 'tards happy that play revision after revision of bf, cod and all the other crap sony/MS pump out year after year.

I think Nintendo actually make profit on their hardware sales, although the Wii U they dont, unlike Sony/MS who sell at a loss for a long time through the product cycle and rely on game and peripheral sales.

Or revisions of Mario, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Zelda :D

Surprised no one has mentioned it by now but those are stock example maps that ship with the unreal engine sdk, infact IIRC though might be wrong even the pickups aren't their work, the only thing they have done is model and animate mario - all the movement code, etc. are example blueprints.

i.e. 1min 23 in is the map from the elemental demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD9CPqSKjTU
