I used to watch Mark Weins religiously, somewhere along the line I found him getting tedious and just the same every single episode, he will use absurd descriptions on things like.
Street vendor flipping an egg "look how he is flipping that expertly"
EXPERTLY?! really?
"look how he is chopping that garlic with awesome skill"
WTF?
He also never seems to criticise any dish, either his standards are REALLY low or he just loves every single item he ever eats but at most he just tilts his head a bit. It's hard to trust his reviews when every single thing he eats he says it is the best thing he has ever eaten. I watch a LOT of food vlogs on YT, from Mike Chan, Luke Martin, Trevor James to that Vietnam guy with a bandana on his head or TJ (Taiwanese lady) to Endless Adventure to Simon and Martina or Kara and Nate (more travel), Lost LeBlanc etc etc. One way or another, everyone has something they don't like or eaten something not very good and they will say it, not Mark Weins. Everything he eats is amazing, which makes it kinda pointless. Like if I am travel to a place to eat, i want to know what is bad, what is good and what is amazing, even if it is one man's opinion. It becomes moot when everything is amazing.
This is a small thing but I recall watching an episode of him in Japan and he puts a big dab of wasabi on a piece of sashimi, like a whole teaspoonful and puts it in his mouth but then the video cuts to the next scene!!!! WTF! I want to see the reaction!!!! It makes me think he isn't the experienced reviewer of food as he seems. Who puts that much wasabi on sushi anyway, and the reaction to that would've been hilarious.
