I've been pondering there use, and as I see it for the most part 75% of them are unused.

The centre circle, apart from kick off and respot, is there any other use. I've alway assumed your not allowed in it from either.

The half circle on the 18yard box. Only reason I can think of it's use is where the players have to stand during a penalty.

The 6yrd box? Pretty pointless unless your taking a goalkick.

Are there any other uses?

The centre circle is a 10 yard radius from the spot, thus the players on the opposite team are that distance away when a kick off is taken. This is the same for the 'd' around the penalty area.

The 6 yard box is mainly for goal kicks as you've said, but it is the minimum distance from the goal a free kick for either team can be taken.

Half circle on 18 yard box is what would be if you drew an imaginary circle around the penalty spot of 10 yards. So all players are at least 10 yards away from the ball.

All lines on the pitch have some use, even if they are minor or rarely used.

The main issue I have with "the D" is that it is extremely rare for refs to penalise encroachment on penalties anyway. Roll on video replays! :)

What irks me is on the TV coverage is when they show a graphic showing how far a free-kick is away from goal. Why do they insist on showing the distance in metres when the pitch is laid out in yards?

I know it's hardly taxing to convert metric to imperial in your head, but it's just one of those little things that really bugs me.
