How does it work? Do you put the Marmite on the toast, then the beans? Or the beans with a glob of Marmite?

I put one person on ignore because of it. I won't say who it was or why, but their post made me rage/sick so much I never want to hear from them again.

After this thread I went into Tesco to pick up a jar of Bovril. £4.40! No thank you.

Eleven quid for that tub I posted above. 90 drinks for £11 is pretty damn good.

I think he means the jars. What you have there is for drinks alone, yes? In which case it's good value.

So what out of that Bovril list is damaging?

Arguably the part where is says "flavour enhancer", which in this case is E631 (disodium guanylate) and E627 (disodium inosinate).

Probably because the additives became more expensive.

As both disodium inosinate and guanylate are relatively expensive, they are usually used in combination with MSG, which is much cheaper to produce. Thus, any foods containing disodium inosinate and guanylate most likely also have MSG. These flavor enhancers have a synergistic relationship, and each enhances the action of the other to allow manufacturers to increase the flavor of a food while decreasing the sodium it contains.

Nope, I’m a southerner and I love a Bovril. If the people you know drink macchiato’s and flavoured gins, then they won’t be Bovril drinkers.

Can confirm, I drink macchiatos and flavoured gin, and I am a southern ponce.

But Bovril tastes much better on toast than Marmite.

1000x times this. Lashings of Bovril and melted butter on thick wholemeal toast is the food of the gods. Marmite cannot compete.

I didn't know people used Bovril as a spread.

Thought it was just a drink you got on a freezing day at the football.

I don't think I've ever had a cup of Bovril. I always just spread it as an alternative to Marmite.
