just to make any veggies aware that mars are going to be using non-vegetarian whey in their chocolate-making process.

Mars, Milky Way, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Twix and Maltesers are all affected :(

Good, might convert a few of those crazy veggies back into carnivors.

Back into carnivores? Humans haven't been carnivores for millions of years have they?

so, you only ever eat animal products? no vegetables at all? I think that actually makes you crazy.

also, I thought it was obvious, but apparently not - this thread is a heads up for vegetarians, not a 'please criticise' for idiots who can't accept that everyone is different.

thanks.

It's bad for muslims, jews and other religions which have the same policies regarding animal products in food. I know that Haribo made halal versions of their sweets, dunno if Masterfoods are gona do the same, otherwise that's a lot of sales lost in amongst religious folk and vegetarians anyway.

meh veggy/meat eater, all a moot point, end of day its all biological matter to fuel your body, confuses me as to why people make the distinction, if it tastes nice, is good for you, then why worry (obviously this doesnt apply to choc bars if its good for you! lol :p )

I love how that site makes it sound shocking:

Mars products are very popular with young people and many will be shocked to discover that their manufacture now relies on the extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves.

Halal meat makes me laugh, another example of -pointless- religous ideas. Fed up of varying religions being given special treatment, 'just because' .

Veggys, well see comment above about it all being biological matter

If you're taking it from your point, what it tastes like shouldn't come into it either. If you see food as purely functional then it's best to be entirely objective about it and not let taste affect what you can eat. IMO, it's up to the individual what they eat - vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, pescatarian, whatever; one of the best things about being human is the ability to be able to make these choices.

Masterfoods have decided to move from vegetarian whey, to animal rennet.
Natural rennet is produced in the inner mucosa of the fourth stomach of young ruminants.
For those of you out there who do not know what that means, to put it bluntly, baby cows are being slaughtered in order to give you a few moments of sweet, calorific enjoyment.
Can you justify that?

I urge you to write to masterfoods, or to leave a comment via there website, and let them understand that there are many of us out here who will not be buying 'Mars' whilst they continues to promote animal cruelty and take UNNECESSARY lives when alternatives are available.

I for one will boycott Mars - and help bring these awful practices to a close.

Only time its bad for muslims is if it uses animal fat ie gelatin is a no go and same with anything thats made out of lard. Other than that most sweets are ok for muslims, but when it comes to jelly stuff...i have to be careful and read the ingredients to make sure it hasnt got gelatin or lard in it.

MMM dead baby cow chocolate.

Is there anyone else who doesn't give a toss about this ?

probably loads of people. this isn't for them. glad you don't give a toss though, the world is better off knowing that. thanks.

you can't change the world through other people. fair enough if you want to boycott mars - you can't convince other people to for the very reason neil3k won't, and nor will others...because they don't care. activism doesn't work, it just annoys people. I won't write to them, or call them, or anything because if they don't want my custom as a vegetarian, then that's fair enough.

Some touchy people in here who can't take a little sarcastic joke.

Eat more meat!
it's not touchy people, it's stupid posters. yes, we get it - most people eat meat. you should get that it's a decision to not eat meat that shouldn't need to be justified.

I eat lamb chops, they're delicious to me, does that fall into the same outrage bracket? A lamb was slaughtered for my minted lamb chops to go on my Sunday dinner yesterday.

I only ask because I'm not sure what your stance is, whether you're against lambs being killed for food full stop, or just for this.
