Pig, got a link to the dev video ? Interested to look at this.
Any more views on this? I don't mind clunky, but if the dialogue or story is rubbish it would put me right off![]()
http://www.capsulecomputers.asia/2013/05/mars-war-logs-review/I think Mars: War Logs is a good case study for RPG design and should be explored if you’ve got 10 hours to spare and can appreciate both indie and classic role playing games. While I don’t believe the it should have had voice acting at all (perhaps placing the budget into things like translation and quest content would have been a better choice), Spiders have managed to produce a game with a lot of things that plenty of popular RPG titles are missing: charm, love, and a good focus on both combat and branching story. While it may be hard to get used to the iffy translations and voice acting, you’ve got an action RPG that has a great brawler/beat ‘em up foundation. What you have here is a game that was made with a lot of love and passion, but was cut quite a bit short of perfection due to budget restraints and the need to please fans.
It should be noted that this is not a game for kids. Think about the crass sense of humor in The Witcher series, then multiply it by 5. This is a title full of rape, sex, murder, and violent references. It all has a narrative reason, and it doesn’t necessarily lack nuance, but you might be taken by surprise at just how gritty this game is. If you were expecting something more Dragon Age oriented, think again. Beating up pimps, rapists, and with a bad attitude and foul mouth is Roy’s prerogative.
http://thecontrolleronline.com/2013/04/mars-war-logs-review/Despite the quirks and rough coat of paint, Mars: War Logs is still a worthy effort. Anyone who enjoys WRPGs like Mass Effect, The Witcher and Dragon Age will find something to take from here even if it’s all been done before. One thing that surprised me was the almost complete lack of bugs. Normally we find glitches and even game-breaking bugs in AAA titles, but War Logs is almost rock solid. At the end of the day this a downloadable title at value price, but one that offers a pretty robust, action RPG experience. The game follows conventions almost too much though, and in the future I’d love to see the team carve out an RPG that stands apart from the crowded market. In the meantime, welcome to Mars and enjoy your stay.
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2013/1275.htmlMars War Logs is a fun and interesting take on Mars as a setting, and pays homage to the classics while adding a bit of its own flavor. While the game forgets itself at times, the non-linear and optional nature of the quests offer lot of reasons to replay the game at least once. Mars War Logs isn’t perfect but if you’re looking for a short and sweet Action RPG experience, go grab it now.
