I was rather saddened to hear that Kingsley Amis' son, Martin Amis has died, and at relatively young age, too.
One of England's best known and respected writers he nonetheless courted controversy throughout his career.
I was always torn between seeing him as a literary genius or as a bit of a pretentious jerk, but with his passing I have slightly mellowed tonight and accept that I am probably unworthy of pigeonholing him that categorically.
I will try and make the time to revisit some of his writings with a more open mind.
That's if I honestly can, having just read some detailed history of father and son that's swayed me to return to my rather irreverent thoughts of the dead...
What's the verdict on Martin Amis' writings from the panel?
