Hey

Ok ive exhausted every option im sure with my performance issues on mass effect 2. Every other game runs fine apart from this such as crysis, black ops, just cause 2 etc. It even stutters on the loading screen then pretty much lag spikes every few seconds during game. so far I have tried....

Updated drivers for graphics card
Updated Audio drivers
Updated Bios
changed ram speed and cpu speed to defaults
ran memory diagnostics (all good)
set affinity to 2-4 cores and on high/real time priority
changed settings for core parking
disabled speed step and turbo
tried different graphics cards

Its still the same. Now for the really weird part, It only runs well straight after new graphics card drivers have been installed, after a restart its back to square one. So does anybody have a idea?

I have a similar problem with ME2. Game stutters like crazy when entering a new room or when a fight begins, makes the game painfull to play at times. I haven't found a solution yet, and have troubleshooted for a fair while. Like you, ME2 is the only game I have had any problems with, well it and GTAIV.

Yeah I've been trying for months now. Totally out of ideas

Have you fiddled about with different versions of DirectX?

I know there was a problem with Fallout Vegas that some people experienced and to solve it they needed to download and put a directx file in the relevant directory.

Nah not that ive came across. ME2 is direct x9 only anyway, console port so perhaps part of the issue. cheers for the effort though, its doing my head in :D

got a wired 360 controller plugged in by any chance?

I had an issue with ME1 lag spiking if I had my 360 controller plugged in, not sure if E2 has same problem

Not had any issues at all with ME2 here, runs very nicely.

I have read a lot of people needing to set affinity on the ME2 exe.

Go into Task Manager > Processes > Right click MassEffect2.exe > Set Affinity > Make sure only one CPU is checked.

Not needed to try it myself, but apparently it fixes some issues for some people.

i'm sorry to hear that you guys are having issues. all i can say is that ME2 can run smoothly on just a Lowly 8800GTX.

Yeah I've done that, noted on the original post. Nah no controller plugged in either. Cheers though

Silly question but have you done a defrag recently? I had SC2 constantly crashing recently. The moment after I done one it ran fine

Hmm, in that case then, you could try this:

- Install DriverSweeper
- Uninstall graphic drivers
- Boot into safe mode
- Run DriverSweeper and clean all graphic drivers
- Restart into 'normal' mode
- Install drivers
- Restart

Dreyfus has a good point. Do you use USB headphones? Do you have a dedicated sound card in your rig?

Hey guys, just as an update I finally resolved my issue, I ran driver sweeper and cleaned up my old realtek audio drivers. seems to have resolved the issue. cheers for all the suggestions though
