I purchased Mass Effect 2 in October on Steam because I really enjoyed the first one. However I am having a massive issue with it.

The intro videos play fine then when I reach the main menu it runs at literally 1fps and I can not even navigate to start a new game  The sound plays fine and the mouse cursor moves like normal.

I run an i7 920 and a GTX480 running the 290.53 drivers on Win 7 64 bit. 1920x1080 and everything on except motion blur in the configurator.

I have had this issue since October and the driver updates have done nothing, I've also tried using older drivers but no luck :/ I've tried verifying the game with steam and also downloading it again but nothing as well.

Anyone know what I could try or do to fix this?

I had this too, but it was ages ago and I can't remember exactly what it was. I think FSAA may have been to blame?

Check you haven't got it forced via the GPU software.

Sorry, I can't help you with the problem, but it might be worth trying the coalesced.ini tweaker, which is a program which modifies you .ini to improve performance etc. I don't have a link, but you could search for ME2 mods or something

If you could remember that would be great :D

Tried googling the issue but only 1 thread appeared and no one answered it properly so I am kind of stuck.

I see no options for FSAA in Nvidia control panel or Nvidia Inspector so I don't think that could be the issue. :)

Do you have Realtek hd audio? I had massive frame rate issues, had tried everything and then updated my integrated sound card drivers and fixed the issue. Quite odd

I do however it is disabled in my bios because I have a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Titanium. I use PAX custom drivers that might be the issue? I'll see if there is a update for them.
