Just purchased and started playing Mass Effect for the first time - another game I missed during my 15 year gaming exile. Just a few hours in and loving it so far but when I set the resolution to 3440x1440 I'm losing some of the view around all sides which means the hud isn't visible and the I can't select some things from the menus. When I set it to 1920x1080 it automatically stretches the game to fill the screen which looks terrible - everything has jagged edges.

I've looked for a config.dll file but can't fine the usual text to alter. Can anyone help me?

Should be able to control aspect ratio in your GPU driver control panel and/or in the monitor OSD. Not sure if there is a widescreen fix for ME or not off the top of my head.

install flawless widescreen

This is the page I found googling for it which is presumably the right one, Looking at the download options should I go x64 or x86? I'm on Win 10 with an i7 PC. I'm presuming x86 and if right what circumstances or hardware make the x64 the one to get? Cheers.

Get the 64 bit.

I was under the impression that it might not matter....but I use the x64 (thought I was using the x86...turns out I wasnt)

Thanks for this guys. How to I actually apply it to the game? I've downloaded it and selected Mass Effect but is hasn't changed the appearance in the game. Am I missing something?

Where is says configure settings and launch game as in the above screenshot - is there somewhere in the Flawless Widescreen application to configure the settings or what?

Is there a way of launching the game directly from Flawless Widescreen?

Edit: Ok so I've started playing with the Display Detection configuration settings and I can see the changes I've made making a difference but can't get them set right - can anyone advise what the settings should be. The automatic display detection is picking it up correctly...

Arrrgh this is driving me nuts. So I've learned you need to press CTRL ALT Z to activate the fix but it's still not right. I've tried every combination of setting I can think of - I'm close but can't get the correct FOV along with the HUD and menus to display fully. HELLLP!

Got it! Good old google and some experimentation prevails in the end. For anyone else trying this, here is as close as I could get to perfect in the Display Setting configuration I manually entered:

Width: 3440 Height: 1440 HUD Width: 1920 (HUD will get cut off if any wider) HUD Height: 1440 HUD X: 328 HUD Y: 1440

If you have managed this without the issues with the out of combat targeting reticle let me know.

Just has my first combat encounter using this and ugh! No, the targeting reticle is off by about 3 inches! I can't see how I could get used to that. I thought is was just for talking to NPCs and interacting with stuff. I'd rather have the black borders in 16:9. Does anyone know how to get this running at 2560x1440?

Or does anyone know how to stop the 1920x1080 resolution stretching to fill my full 21:9 panel? I've tried all the display options in driver settings profile options but no joy.

Hey managed to sort the combat targeting reticle! Change HUD X to 750. This makes it pretty spot on although it doesn't fix the marker for interacting with NPCs/items but makes it playable now for me. :)

Just used the galaxy map for the first time - it is so cool! I love the way you can zoom in and out of galaxies! Also loving the moon buggy, class that you can drive up and over everything. One question - the things that you discover on the planet like mineral rocks and crashed probes - are you supposed to be able to interact with them? Can you actually come out of the buggy?

Exactly the same point I got to as well. I havent tried it in years. I was able to remove the targeting reticle for NPC interaction completely modifying the game for Nvidia 3d vision (I dont have a 3d monitor). But it removed the combat targeting reticle as well.

At this point I gave up.

Ok holy thread revival on the back of ME:A.

MASS EFFECT 1

I managed to maintain 21:9 resolution and remove the NPC/item targeting issue whilst maintaining the correct targeting reticle for your gun (anyone with 21:9 and the FW fix will know about this problem).

1)Use FW as usual with the presets mentioned earlier in this thread.
2)Go into \Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\ConfigBIOGuiResources.ini
3)Make the following edit and save
4)[BIOC_Base.BioSFHandler_Reticule]

m_fMinScalingRange=1000.0f

m_fMinScalingValue=0.2f

to

[BIOC_Base.BioSFHandler_Reticule]

m_fMinScalingRange=0.0f

m_fMinScalingValue=0.0f

Works for me, hope it does for anyone else interested as well.
