Before you hurt me, I can't be alone!

I have played and completed it but it all seemed very different from traditional RPGs and not in a good way. I think in nearly every way Bioware made a better game with Baldur's Gate 2 and in most ways KOTOR.

Heres my gripes with the game:

> The game was over before it began for an RPG. There only seemed to be two main planets and what you did there was just fighting. I was hoping for more places like the Citadel, where you can talk, explore etc.

> The story twists while good seemed to be lifted straight from the pages of Babylon 5. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue for people that haven't seen the show.

>The people you talk to don't talk naturally. Everyone you meet wants to give you their life story along with the history of the planet. Things like that should be optional and out of the way (like the books in Deus Ex say), not rammed down our throat at every opportunity!

> You didn't really see the main bad guy much and all the story twists and turns were made right at the end. I know its made as a trilogy but as a single chapter it doesn't stand very strongly alone.

> The random planets that were so hyped were rubbish! It was more like a daft mini game and certainly not up to the quality of other areas. I have no idea why the world map needed to be so big when really theres about 4 solid story planets. While I'm ranting the name PLANET is a bit misleading given you can only explore a tiny, tiny part of it! For all that you see and do it could have taken place on one planet in 4 locations but instead they bigged it up as some kind of galaxy spanning adventure!

Basically while I don't think its a bad game Its certainly not anything special. For me Baldur's Gate 1, 2, KOTOR 1, 2, Oblivion, Lost Odyssey and Planescape were so much better in every respect other than graphics!

So am I a mad man? lol

I agree, but I still enjoyed it.

If they had made it so that it was a galaxy spanning adventure it would have taken a much longer time to make, and most probably would have been on multiple disks or not come on the 360 at all.

Hmm maybe it was my own fault for not researching it better but from the way the game was marketed and coming from Bioware I expected something very different.

It was a good game, above average, but i do agree with what you have said. I wish they had spent less time making random planets and invested more time into making one or two extra places like the citadel.

Agreed, I never actually finished the game because I got so frustrated with all the rubbish planets. It seemed like the developers put a lot of effort into places like the Citidel and then ran out of time, creating the crappy areas as an afterthought.

Agree with some of your points but I still thought it was a fantastic game. I think it took me 25 hours to complete it with most of the side quests done, so I cant complain about the longevity. Although more places like the Citadel would have indeed been excellent. Also the planets were indeed, crap.

Yep most of the planets are incredibly lame, often with boring MMO style quests/objectives. Infact I had more fun grinding the same quests in WoW for the 5th time than doing the planets in Mass Effect because I didn't have to use that ridiculous abomination called the Mako.

I enjoyed it, and found the length to be good. I typically have a very short attention span, so finishing this in about 25 hours was good. That did not include all the side missions, and I did not travel to every planet (though did do many).

I do hope they bring out the continuation fairly soon.

Are there any other games like it for the 360?

Shepard's facial expressions kept me through it.

Personally, I lived for the fist clenching. :D

The rest of the game had some great moments, and actually made me believe some of this 'next-gen' console hype. However the actual core plot was over far too quickly and it was possible to do things in such an order as too make some of the plot developments/character interactions appear messed up, or even plain random. I hope the sequels are better planned out.

I enjoyed it though, which I suppose is the main thing.

Oblivion?

Kind of agree with the OP's sentiments. Mass Effect was better than average at times but nothing special.

It's a bit worrying that this is considered an rpg these days (Oblivion was also touted as an rpg). Quite frankly they are nothing like rpgs, to what I would consider them (BG, PS:T, etc).....more like action/adventure games tbh.

Seems the gaming industry is moving more and more towards interactive movies than games with any depth. Dumbed down/cutscene heavy/tech showcases, etc...most of the budget gets blown on expensive voice actors and fancy graphics.
