I seem to get exactly the same performance with or without crossfire.

I thought this game loved Crossfire?

Not AFAIK. I remember running it with a 9800GX2 and there was no difference, SLi on or off. Don't think it likes multi-gpu full stop.

Well Bioware staff have actually said they noticed large gains with it - also the Guru3D review backs this up.

I'm a tad confused about this.

Dunno if they've fixed it now but there was problems with mass effect where multi-GPU rendering was disabled when you had your gun out (but worked as soon as you holstered it) and wouldn't work at all in most of the citadel level.

He probably means he has 4870 x 2. Not the single 4870x2. He has just the 4870 underlined next to the x2. Bit obscure I admit but that's how I see it.

If you're talking about me - I have one single 4870X2. I have been "disabling" xfire by turning AI off - which i presumed turned xfire off.

As far as I know, that has no effect on whether the crossfire is enabled or not. Certainly I get the same on my card with it enabled or disabled, even in games like crysis or UT3 which are definitely using x-fire (since I get significantly better performance than with my old GTX280).
