BioWare's much-anticipated Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect has finally been pencilled in for release this September, months after the June/July arrival date previously expected.

The news comes from an official Microsoft event this morning, though no more details have been offered.

The September release puts Mass Effect in head-to-head competition with fellow first-party RPG Blue Dragon, which is also released that month. This might seem silly to you budding industry analysts, but it's probably just as beneficial for Microsoft to avoid the infamous Summer drought.

I wasn't expecting anything less. If it was coming out soon there would have been massive press coverage and you wouldn't be able to go anywhere on the net without seeing it.

Wait til after E3, that's when they are really gonna start to push it.

I'm happy about the delay, I'll be able to afford it then.
 
I think its god news, the games look samazing but the last few vids I saw had really bad framerate issues, gives em time to fix them before release.

just hope its half as good as it looks
 
God that blows, I've already got enough games to play through that time of the year I dont need another :( I was hoping it would come out in June after the Halo 3 Beta, since after the Beta there is nothing I want for my 360 until september/october time with GTA 4 + Halo 3 which will take up all my gaming time :(
 
Yep, I'd much rather it be delayed a couple of months than rushed out before it's ready just to fit some marketing plan ***cough* kotor 2 ***cough***

It's going to be worth the wait.
 
Makes me sad but its also a good thing. Bioshock is schedualed for June which personally I dont think its gonna happen either (they have only just started the design of the LE box)
 
I would have loved it to be out sooner, but at the end of the day, the longer they get to finish the game and iron out bugs, the better, just hope it is worth the wait.

Still, will have Forza 2 to keep me entertained until then.

The delay is also good news for me, Gives me more time to buy an Xbox 360.

Newer the console Manufacturing date the better for me.
 
A huge shame the game is delayed but lets face it, much better that than the game comes out before it is ready.

However, it does mean there are going to be so many must haves this Autumn for the 360. I liked the earlier release date simply because it meant the game didn't clash with Halo3/GTA4/Bioshock etc.

Yeah I always thought no official release date had been set, though if that link is correct it could just be for Europe (damn the EU and our multitude of languages).

I won't mind too much about the delay, although I can't wait to play it. The longer they have to polish the better, I'm pinning my hopes on this being as legendary a game as Baldur's Gate was back in the day.
