Buying power of the public, no one buys it, it woulda been made available free.
Damn valve starting this episodic content nonsense and current crop of consoles just looking to make massive money off ridiculous stuff on marketplaces. I just, i don't get it, I've never felt the need to pay for skins to make the backgrounds look nicer, or pay for crappy map packs, or video's, music and what not, all stuff thats free and easy on the PC.
I play my 360, when i want to play a game, i want to watch a video, a preview, a film or whatever I use my PC which is eleventy billion times better and basically free to customise as i want.
I just find it all so weird to pay for any of the stuff available on the marketplace, and I'd rarely if ever buy extra content for anything on the PC. I've bought a couple steam games, but full games.
Seems to me all this small content for games stuff just lengthens the time between the full games anyway and it ends up that the small extra content stuff is short and fairly silly.
IN the case of Mass Effect I read that its basically one extra planet with stuff on? which due to the nature of the game you need a save game from before the whole final sequence, or start a new game to even play. I'd prefer the next game to be 3 months earlier than have some unsatisfyingly short mediorce content inbetween.
Then not everyone will agree with me, I though episode 1 and 2 were boring, predictable and pointless and needlessly expensive. 2-3 hours per ep, with the first one being incredibly bad, running back into the building you just left, using the completely repetitively bad grav gun again, then running back through streets that feel identical to the ones you spent 10 hours running through to get to the building in the first place.
Episodic content all sucks very very badly, except Tv, because you can't have good tv without episodes ¬_¬
