Mass effect - stuck

I'm either doing something very stupid or missing something obvious. I've just done the first mission on Eden Prime and now i'm back at the Citadel. I need to go speak to the council now...so i go find the tower...go up the elevator to the council bit and nothing happens at all? The only person i can speak with is the guy who wants me to scan the keepers.

What am i doing wrong? I've been running around for so long trying to figure it out lol..

I found the citadel a bit confusing to get around. Have only played it once so not too clear on it all, but I think when yous tep out of the elevator you need to go to the opposite side of the courtyard you are in. The Captain should be there.

Strange, the guy that is scanning the keepers only appeared for me after talking to the council.

I went back to the bit where i started in the citadel...but the Captain is still there and not anywhere near the council. Weird..

go to the journal and click on your current mission, what does the next step say?

It says gather evidence against saren or something like that. Goto the citadel tower has a tick next to it.

well you've done the citadel tower bit then. You need to find evidence to prove Saren is guilty. There are two ways of doing it (afaik) there is a volus in the financial district that you should talk to (he's in an office on his own)
