I'm thinking of buying this for the PC. Can someone tell me what DRM these games have with the origin edition.

Do I have to connect online to play or anything?
 
Mass Effect is basically a romance simulator. Everything else is just a story attached on top to make it "play" like a 3rd person action game.

Considering you spend most of your time talking and building relationships, rather then actual 3rd person action. I'd consider Mass Effect series the most successful romance simulator ever.

Entirely seriously, just sit back and really think about how much actual 3rd person action gaming you get from 2 and 3 especially.

I was recently replying 2, when my wife asked "Do you just talk to people in that game?"

The aim for ME2 is to build a good relationship with your crew and take on the collectors. Most if not all of this takes part in the conversation wheel which gives the illusion of choice but it always ends the conversation in 2 directions (Sometimes 1).

ME3 you need to build a good relationship with your crew, the other races and factions.

ME1 had more action then the other 2, but it still had the foundations for the romance simulator.
 
It's an RPG, and yeah that involves going around talking to NPCs. You can romance one of the crew, but it's a tiny part of the game and an optional one.

Please, just consider.

I would say its an insult to RPG's if you tried to class it as one.

The Witcher series is a RPG, Dragon Age is a RPG and Romance Sim.

Mass Effect has no game play mechanics (That i can think off) that would classify it as a RPG.

At best i would say its a Romance Simulated 3rd person action (RPG).

And your narrowminding the romance part to just the end bit.

But its all about building relationships, that's all you do. You chat to Jacob, ask about his life, his past, his dad and help him find is dad and then he becomes loyal. 1 of the Bioware reps once mentioned that they were building a romance simulator and a girl was hired because of her romance novel writing ability.

Some people like ME some dislike the ME series. I like RPGs, while ME isn't a true RPG it is a very good series of games, end of. Let's get back on topic and answer the OP's question, anyone know the answer?
 
If its from origin then yhat should be all thr drm thats needed. Iys been a while since ive played them but cant recall anything else taking place as mine are on origin too.
I know you dont need origin running for 1+2, not played 3 yet on pc so that one might as its newer.
 
The Mass Effect series, like all Bioware games, are character focused story heavy games. It's not a romance sim, you don't need to romance anyone if you don't want. It's just an aspect of an over arching story (like any movie.)

IMO the ME series is probably the best gaming franchise of the last decade. It was made to play like a movie and provide the same experience.
 
While the end sequence of 3 is something best left undone and unseen, especially pre-expanded ending. ->

You would have thought that after Metal Gear Solid Convolution, other developers would have learned some sort of lesson, when dealing with overly complex stories and meta-gaming/fourth wall experiences.

The general populace of gamers are not English majors, while it is rather unfortunate for the people that have enough experience with such things, it is probably not a good idea even then, after all...if you don't make your game very precisely for that reason, peoples focus will likely be on other elements of the game.

-> Still a great series nonetheless.
