Afternoon people,

Installed Mass Effect which I bought from the Steam sale and it just does not want to work with Windows 7. I've tried every possible combination to my knowledge...

- Verifying game through Steam
- Defragging through Steam
- Re-downloading the game
- Running as Admin, both the launcher and .exe in the Steam folder
- Every other combination possible i.e comparability mode/admin right
- Changing the names of some .dll files

Really doing my head in as i'm not back till the 4th so want to start playing now. Already re-downloaded the 15GB game, twice. Looked all over Google and tried all the suggestions, still won't work.

Help please, before I break something!

Strange, mine worked just by running as admin, although I have the standalone version.

Did you try checking the "run this program as administrator" on MassEffect.exe and then starting from within Steam as normal?

Some people have had to run Steam in admin mode, then start Mass Effect from there to make it work.

Christ...

Started fine when I clicked run as admin on the .exe this time but didn't work yesterday...

What in the ****.

Thanks for the help, love it how it decides to work now...

Is there any way to make every bit of software run as administrator by default? I've just started using Windows 7 and this is really starting to get on my ****.

Only way to do that is to switch UAC off, but then you lose that entire section of security. I really wouldn't recommend it.
