I'm still running the Win 7 64bit RC ( haven't had the time to install my retail copy yet), and have just bought Mass Effect. When I try to launch it, it crashes at the configuration stage.

Has anyone had this working with Win 7? Does anyone have any advice?

My specs:
i5 750
MSI GD80
4gb GSkill Ripjaw DDR3
Gecube Radeon 3850

I recently played through the whole game on Win7 x64 RC without a problem

Sorry no idea what the problem is

Tried setting the launcher to run administrator mode?

i've been downloading it since 11am this morning (now at 85%) I'll let you know how I get on I've still got Win 7 RC 64 on my PC 7100 version

C2D 6300 at 2.7 4 gig mem and 4870 card

Yep, tried admin mode, and tried a few variances on the compatibility mode as well and nothing works. I'm downloading the 1.02 patch now to see if that makes a difference.

Cheers, let me know what happens!

I'm running it fine, although it's the steam version.

IIRC with several of the games of the time you may need an updated open audio? (AL Audio?) codec thing from Creative.

It was the same one that Bioshock needed as well under Vista,

As with everyone else here, Mass Effect runs fine for me on Win7 64bit. Well, except for the lag due to using a laptop :D

I run it under W7 x64 on my 3.7ghz C2D and it's a stuttery pos. I've tried defragging my cache files and virtually everything without any luck. I just went back to the smooth as silk 360 version in the end. It runs a bit better on Vista (dual boot machine) so I don't really know what to make of that.

I refuse to believe it's the system given that it handles everything I chuck at it so I'll just leave it at that.

It was the opposite when i played it, couldn't stand it on the 360 because of all the lag, my e6600 at stock and 8800gtx ran it no problem tho, this was on vista iirc.

Indeed - bought and finished it on the 360, and it was dire in some of the more intense firefights. Grabbed the PC one on offer, and it's just so much better (fantastic on an SSD - eliminates the texture pop-in entirely).
