mass email software?

hi guys,

just a quick question about mass emailing... basically, what is involved?

can it run from a spreadsheet of addresses or something like that? and are there open source / free apps that will do the job?

basically i need a free but decent mass email solution, and advice very welcome

EDIT: can i just add this is definitely not a spam strategy, it is for sending out an html / pdf newsletter

EDIT2: also, as a preference i would much prefer the software to be mac... if it is not free but not too much so be it... Mass Mailer for Mac looks good but who knows...

Most good email clients will let you manage reasonable size mailing lists and import contact lists from csv files.

If you want real big lists that your users can subscribe/unsubscribe then I guess something like Majordomo may be worth looking at. Also there is a free version of LISTSERV but it's limited to 500 users.

Also check out Mailman, should be ok on anything that runs python.

Used to use Mercury/Pegasus mail. Supports Novell and Windows
