Mass file renamer

Is there a free program i can use to rename say

name1.zzz
name2.zzz
name3.zzz
name4.zzz

to

name1.xxx
name2.xxx
name3.xxx
name4.xxx

I have hundreds of files with the wrong extensions and cant be bothered going through each one of them

I've always been a great fan of ReNamer for this: http://www.den4b.com/projects.php

I don't need it so much anymore, but once upon a time I was renaming thousands of files daily and none of the rivals I used had the flexibility of this.

you could open a cmd prompt and type REN *.zzz *.xxx

job done. but i see you managed it anyway

Have used Lupas Renamer in the past - works very well. I found Directory Report excellent as well.

I've used ckrename for mp3's in the past (before I found tag & rename)

ren *.zzz *.xxx

^best and quickest way.
