mass file renaming

anyone any idea on how i could go about mass renaming a bunch of files?

essentially i have a ton of frames from a camera, all numbered sequentially (image 1, image 2, image 3 etc), unfortunately a few bad frames needed to be trimmed out manually and the software i'm using to work with them will decide if there's a gap in the sequence to skip all the rest.

so i need to try and rename everything i have to bring it back in sequential order without the gap in the numbers.

i'd rename them manually but there's 64000 images.....

Irfanview will do this with its batch edit function I believe, or there are methods of doing so with command prompt (Google about).

ALT+M and then you have loads of options.

Use TC for over 30 years now, who still remembers Windows Commander or clones like Volkov Commander for DOS..??

Use command prompt and CD to the directory with the pics in. Then use this:

ren "OLD-FILE-NAME.EXTENSION" "NEW-FILENAME.EXTENSION"

For multiple files, change the initial file name to *

ren *.FILE-EXTENSION ???-FILE-NAME.JPEG

In File Explorer select the files you want, press F2 to rename (or select from menu) then type in the name on one of them. The rest will automatically get renamed as Name (1), Name (2), and so on.
