i currently have a 5850 direct cu and am feeling the need for a slight upgrade, i have pretty much decided on crossfiring two 5850's but dont want different brands

i have decided the best thing to do would be buy two of the £125 5850's and sell mine on to get half back.

my question is do you think this is the best upgrade path or is there a better single card, or combination i could go for?

While I have pre-ordered the MSI 5850 Twin FrozeR myself, I really can't agree with you logic of selling your existing 5850 simply because of it being different brand and lose money on it. Just get one and crossfire is the only way to have the best value for money.

If you were to sell your existing 5850, you'd better off getting a GTX570/6970 instead.

Another thing to consider is...is your 5850 actually not good enough for your current gaming? If it is not really the case, then may be just save your money, and leave your next graphic upgrade until the next gen graphic cards with 28nm cores?

May I ask why you don't want different brands? I mean the Direct CU is a nice card, and there won't be any compatibility issues running it with an MSI - since it's the same chip underneath.

Is it just for aesthetics? If so then you will be paying a fair bit of money for it.

May I ask what motherboard you have?

Maybe you can do a trade with someone else so you don't lose too much. I would get a 6970. I had a 5850 and a 6970 is a really good upgrade.
