Hi guys, I'm on virgin media 20mb

When I connect direct to the modem via ethernet cable, I can download at 1.8mb/s which I am more than happy with.

However, when I connect via my router, a 3com office connect 54mbps 11g, it seems to max out at 330kb/s

Any idea of tweaking of settings, or is it the hardware that is not up to scratch?

Thanks,

Mal

Hey mal

i also just had virgin 20mb installed and first impression arnt good, news groups never download over 200k / sec where as i used to max out my 8mb adsl connection full time, also downloading from fileplanet seems to be hovering around 100k / sec and most of got from an http download is 900k / 1mb a sec

im gonna try without my router tonite see what results i get with that but not happy atmo

Check the spec of the WAN port on that router. My old Linksys did the same and the crap Microsoft one I use at the moment has a 1Mb cap.

It's the router, these incredibly fast home connections are too much for the older stuff to handle, it's new router time.

Have a look at the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 and run Tomato/DD-WRT/etc. on it.

I had a Linksys that limited me to about 13meg. I got 20meg by connecting the modem direct so I replaced the router for a Netgear 854T and get 20meg with that.

On the Linksys WRT54GL 1.1 here running HyperWRT +Thibor 15c firmware and get 20MB connection over wireless (boosted signal xmit to 65%) so am very happy here!
