Soooo......

I have 16gb of Ram and its pretty decent Geil Veloce 16gb Dual channel sticks.

I noticed last night that the RAM has only showed 8GB in the motherboard (Asus p7p55d-evo)

I think on stick is dodge as it has issues when plugging into the 1st of the 2 dual channel slots it wont boot.

But also when I used the good stick in there it has issues.

My BIOS only see's 8GB but there is 8GB useable in windows.

Someone said re-seat the cpu which I will do tonight, checking all the pins and points.

I am looking to RMA the ram asap. But I will try some things tonight. Is there anything I should be doing on the motherboard, I have reset the CMOS and used the Mem!ok button and it still only shows as 8GB in the BIOS.

Its weird Windows see's 16 but 8GB useable.

I'll use some different RAM when I get home and will try to see if its the port, but I am sure it is the RAM being spent.

I have had some BSOD recently but it points to Processor core in the event viewer, which makes me think that it is maybe the CPU needing reseating?

Im so confused....

Its a bit weird, it wont boot with one stick (dodge one) but if i use the good stick in the 1st port it wont boot (it must be the wrong port for 1 stick)

If i put in the dodge stick in the 2nd blue (dual port) that works with the good stick it wont even show the post screen, this makes me believe the stick is dodgy.

I will test at home a bit further.

If you have an aftermarket heatsink, make sure it is not done up too tight, it can warp the board/connections and stop ram slots from working.

Should boot with working ram in any working slot.

It is potential that the cpu cooler is too tight.

I had issues with the h80i being too lose and so I out a few washers in the back as per instructed online. This fixed the issue with the plate not making good contact but it might be too tight.

I'll losen it and try tonight. Will post the test results.

If you're not up and running after checking the socket and cooler check your Bios and the version information. If anything says N/A your bios is corrupt and you'll need to re flash.

That's interesting. I've updated the BIOS to latest.

I have had odd issues while in th BIOS, *it occasionally hangs or certain keys stop working. I've even had funny characters come up once.

The more I've been reading the more I am leaning towards a dodge pin/cpu heatsink too tight. It would make sense ad I cannot overclock past 4.0 and it falls over now and then citing processor core in the event log.

First thing I'll do is:

Reseat RAM
adjust cpu heatsink (cooling plate h80i)
swap dimm slots
reset cmos and try again

Failing that I'll take the cpu put check all pins on the mobo and make sure the cpu is clean.

Failing that RMA the ram (sorry guys didn't get it here, you know when a deal is just too good it must be....)

The processor def not right in the socket. I had 4 bsod the other day with just 1 stick of the RAM in. So the more I've read the more I'm sure it's a bad pin/seat

Status update :

All is well after a 1/4 turn off for each screw!

Though it now reads 15.5GB useable, I think that is a different story all together!

Still cant sit at 4.2ghz stable though that is my PSU I believe.

Anyone know why 15.5gb is unseable, i have a 1GB 5770 (soon to be a 970)

It has its own RAM and the mobo hasnt got its own gfx so it must be the cpu using it for the intel onboard gfx?

Think your last line is the culprit - you can usually assign how much is used in the bios iirc.

Not this motherboard it seems there is no video outputs on the motherboard. No vga dvi hdmi or dp.

No settings in the bios for video.

Windows has max memory set to 16348 or whatever 16gb works out to be.

It going to be for gfx but no way of disabling it I can find so far.

Anyone got an asus p7p55d-p7p55d-evo and know how to do this?

Edit: lol asus is sushi in auto correct

So I cannot find what is causing 515mb of system reserved memory, there is no onboard video and no settings in the BIOS.

What else can be causing this, surely things like onboard audio and the like wouldnt have system reserved memory, surely?

if you load up resource monitor, does it say that its hardware reserved? I am assuming yes.

Check the properties for your gpu (from device manager) it might be one that can use a portion of system ram to help it out? Ive seen that on some laptop and lower end gpu's.

Its a 5770 that has never had this issue before, so I need to understand it.

i have seen if I look into dev manager I can see by resource (never knew that) so I will look into this.

I have never had this issue with this gfx card before, it has 1Gb onboard. Very confusing.
